Ways to give

Workplace giving

One of the easiest, most effective ways a company can support the Wikimedia Foundation is by offering employees the option to give at work.

These programs can double and sometimes triple the impact donors can make with their gifts. There are several ways companies can participate:

Employee Giving Platforms

If your employer utilizes an employee giving platform, you can select the Wikimedia Foundation as the beneficiary of your donations. You can find us on Benevity, YourCause, Bright Funds, Global Giving, and CyberGrants.
The Wikimedia Foundation’s Tax ID Number (EIN) is 20-0049793.

If your company uses another platform, or you don’t see us listed, please contact us at: matching@wikimedia.org.

Matching Gifts

Many companies have programs that will match their employees' charitable contributions. Through corporate gift matching, your employer can multiply the impact of your gift to the Wikimedia Foundation. Companies and foundations use various procedures by which employees can request matching gifts. Conditions and criteria for matching gifts vary by employer. Some employers will also match donations made by spouses, retirees, and board members.

Volunteer Matching Gifts

Some companies donate to the employee’s designated charity for hours volunteered. Hours can be spent editing Wikipedia or its sister sites, patrolling Wiki pages for vandals, and contributing to the MediaWiki software.

Payroll Deduction

The Wikimedia Foundation participates in many employer-sponsored payroll deduction campaigns. Some companies allow you to set up automatic, tax-deductible donations right from your paycheck. Be sure to contact your employer’s Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility team to ask how you can sign up for donations made through payroll deductions.

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)

CFC is the official workplace-giving campaign for the federal community, offering federal employees and retirees the opportunity to support the causes they care about. If you are a federal employee, you can support the work of the Wikimedia Foundation with your CFC pledge.

If you would like to give the Wikimedia Foundation as part of Educate America! CFC: use our CFC #61478 during the annual campaign (typically September – December) to help make a difference.

United Way

If your workplace giving program includes the United Way, you can designate the Wikimedia Foundation as one of your charities of choice. Simply list the Wikimedia Foundation on your local United Way Donor Designation Pledge form or write in the Wikimedia Foundation Federal Tax ID Number (EIN) is 20-0049703 to designate your donation.

Start a Program at your Workplace

If your employer does not have a workplace giving program or would like to include the Wikimedia Foundation in your existing program, contact your human resources or Corporate Social Responsibility departments.
